Tom Cruise surprises Ohio State marching band with invitation to private screening of

The Ohio State marching band received a big surprise this week as they prepared to take the field for the Buckeyes’ Rose Bowl clash with Utah on New Year’s Day. Tom Cruise, one of the biggest movie stars in the world, gifted members of the band a special invitation to a screening with Cruise for his upcoming film “Top Gun: Maverick” this spring in Columbus, Ohio.

In a video shared by the band’s official Twitter account, a letter written by Cruise is read aloud to band members, who stunningly react to the celebrity’s offer. The students also received official “Top Gun: Maverick” T-shirts. The Ohio State band has been performing a “Top Gun” routine during halftime shows this season.

Video of the surprising moment can be seen below.

Cruise reprises his role as Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the sequel to the 1986 box office smash “Top Gun.” In addition to Cruise, the film also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Ham, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer. According to Paramount Pictures, the movie is scheduled to be released May 27, 2022.

While Ohio State did reach the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes fell short of their ultimate goal of competing for a national championship. Ohio State suffered its first loss to arch-rival Michigan in 10 years to end the regular season, which denied the Buckeyes a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game and potentially a spot in the College Football Playoff.
