BOYS BASKETBALL

Williamstown 55, Wirt County 53 (OT)

ELIZABETH — Gavin Lemley’s putback were the only points in the extra session here Tuesday night as visiting Williamstown escaped Wirt County with a 55-53 overtime win.

The 2-5 Tigers, who play Thursday at Calhoun County, missed a trio of open looks in overtime and finished 12 of 18 from the charity stripe.

Williamstown, now 4-1 with a home game tonight versus Tug Valley, was led by Parker Schramm’s game-high 22 points. Schramm canned four of the Yellowjackets’ eight made 3s. Payton Bunch added 10 points and Dylan Ashley had six.

Brandon Richards paced the orange and black with 19 points. DeShawn Middleton finished with 16 and Connor Hover tallied six markers.

Ravenswood 62, Ripley 57

RAVENSWOOD — In a tight game throughout where both teams shot better than 54% from the floor, host Ravenswood managed to hold off rival Ripley here Tuesday night for a 62-57 victory.

Matthew Carte led all point-producers with 23. Shawn Banks added 11 for the Red Devils, who also got eight markers and five boards from Ashton Miller.

Ripley, now 3-2 with a home game next Tuesday versus Nitro, had a balanced scoring attack. Luke Johnson and Isaiah Casto scored 12 points each. Brady Anderson and Cade Goode produced 10 counters apiece and Dylan Casto chipped in eight points.

The Red Devils, who also received six points apiece from Beau Bennett and Drew Hunt, will carry a 5-1 record into Thursday’s game at Southern.

Tyler 62, Lincoln County 51

ELLENBORO — Caleb Strode posted a game-high 21 points and double-doubled with a dozen rebounds here Tuesday to help lead Tyler Consolidated past Lincoln County, 62-51, in the championship game of the Cowan-Spangler Memorial Tournament.

The Silver Knights, who improved to 3-3 and return to action next Tuesday at Paden City, also received 17 points, six assists and a block from Haygen Baker.

LCHS, which dropped to 2-3 and trailed 34-30 at halftime, was led in scoring by Cam Blevins with 20 and Jackson Sanders with a baker’s dozen.

Brody Seckman chipped in eight markers and Connor Bailey had six for the victors.

Ritchie 68, Calhoun 25

ELLENBORO — Ritchie County bolted out to a 23-5 advantage after the opening quarter and never looked back here Tuesday en route to securing a 68-25 triumph versus Calhoun County in the consolation game of the Cowan-Spangler Memorial Tournament.

The 2-2 Rebels, who led 38-12 at intermission, got game-highs of 14 points from Kolton DePinho and 15 rebounds by Austin Bartlett.

Ethan Haught finished with 12 points and five assists for the Rebels, who also got eight markers and a pair of steals from Gus Morrison. Briar Lamp and Brandon Riddle added seven tallies apiece for the Rebels.

Ian Richards and Levi Morris led the Red Devils in scoring with eight points each.

Union Local 59, Magnolia 53

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Beezer Porter pumped in a game-high 21 points for visiting Union Local here Tuesday evening to help the Jets slip past Magnolia, 59-53.

The 1-2 Blue Eagles, who welcome in St. Marys on Thursday, knocked down 10 triples. Hayden Pyles canned four of the 3s and finished with 18 points for MHS, which also had double figure scoring efforts from Kaden Johnson (15) and Trevor Williamson (10).

Elijah Butterworth, who joined Porter in making a quartet of treys apiece, added 15 points for the Jets. E.J. Butts finished with 13 points for the victors.

South Webster 67, Belpre 26

BELPRE — South Webster led 28-6 after one and 47-12 at halftime here Tuesday and left town with a 67-26 victory versus Belpre.

Freshman Eli Roberts dropped in a game-high 28 points for South Webster, which also got 18 markers from Trae Zimmerman and 13 by Brady Blizzard.

The 2-7 Golden Eagles, who play Tuesday at Eastern, were led in scoring by Jake Alkire with 10 and Jacob Smeeks with seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ritchie 35, Calhoun 28

ELLENBORO — Ritchie County made a 16-7 lead after the opening quarter stand here Tuesday as the host Rebels fended off Calhoun County, 35-28, in the championship game of the Cowan-Spangler Memorial Tournament.

The 5-2 Rebels, who are off until Parkersburg Catholic invades for a 7 p.m. varsity only tip on Wednesday, Jan. 5, were led by Rebekah Rupert’s game-high 16 points.

Calhoun County (4-3) had the only other double figure scorer in Josie Montgomery, who tossed in 15 counters.

Jayci Gray drained a pair of 3s for the Rebels and joined teammate Olivia Cress with eight counters.

Ashlyn Boak and Savannah Cunningham had four points apiece in the setback.

Tyler 64, Paden City 16

KIDWELL — Visiting Paden City trailed 16-1 after one and 28-3 at the half here Tuesday night as the Wildcats suffered a 64-16 setback to Tyler Consolidated.

The Silver Knights, who play Monday at Valley (Wetzel), received double figures from Lauren Templeton (15) and Caleigh Phillips (14). Braeden Wall chipped in eight points while Silver Knight teammates Havannah LeMasters and Landry Buchanan scored seven points each.

McKenzie Thomas paced the Wildcats with a 13-point effort.

Frontier 50, Shenandoah 36

NEW MATAMORAS — Kara Ramsey led all scorers with 17 points and chipped in seven rebounds and a quartet of steals here Tuesday evening to help lead host Frontier to a 50-36 win against Shenandoah.

The 8-4 Cougars, who return to action on Jan. 8 when Beallsville invades, also watched Morgan Haught add nine points and a game-high 19 rebounds.

Jaylyn Shapley and Tacey Kirkpatrick contributed nine tallies apiece for the Cougars, who got four steals, a quartet of blocks and three dimes from Grace Knowlton.

South Webster 62, Belpre 31

BELPRE — Bri Claxon showed why she’s one of the top girls basketball players in the state of Ohio Tuesday.

The South Webster standout scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Jeeps past Belpre, 62-31.

Belpre (2-11) got 12 points from Kaitlen Bush plus nine more from Halee Williams.

The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back Jan. 3 against Federal Hocking.

Waterford 54, Morgan 18

WATERFORD — Mackenzie Suprano recorded 15 points, eight steals and three assists to help lift Waterford past Morgan 54-18 Tuesday.

Cara Taylor added 11 points, six steals and three dimes for the Wildcats, who shot 48.7% (19 for 39) from the floor. Kendall Sury and Lilly Franchino chipped in eight points apiece for the winners.
