“#5 will never be forgotten:” Roswell quarterback Robbie Roper has died, family


ROSWELL, Ga. — Family, friends and the Georgia high school football community are mourning the loss of a beloved football player.

Roswell High School quarterback Robbie Roper died Wednesday. His family confirmed his death in a statement on Roper’s Twitter account.

“He was the biggest joy to our family. We are proud of the young man he has become. He will be missed by his friends and family. We are still working on funeral arrangements and will update everyone on the date, time and location.”

The senior quarterback had been in the intensive care unit after reported complications during a medical procedure.

The Roswell community is putting all their support behind the Roper family during this time.

“Heartbreaking news. Robbie was an incredible young man and made a huge impact on his teammates, classmates, and the community. #5 will never be forgotten,” the school posted in a statement.

“A wonderful young man was taken from this world way too soon. Please Lord keep the Roper family safe and provide them the strength they need to get through this. We will forever remember you and we ? you more than you will ever know Robbie,” Roswell strength and conditioning coach Matt Rogers tweeted.

Roper just finished his senior season and led the Hornets to the Class AAAAAAA quarterfinals.

The dual-threat quarterback received college offers from UMass, Morehead State, Morgan State and Western Carolina, according to 247sports.com. He also was getting some looks from the University of Florida.

Coaches, players and schools from across north Fulton and Georgia have offered their condolences on social media.

A vigil is expected to happen Wednesday night,.

The family said they are still working on funeral arrangements.
