Florida adds Ohio State transfer QB Jack Miller | Sports

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller announced he is bound for Florida, becoming coach Billy Napier’s first get from the transfer portal.

Miller, who announced his decision on Twitter, played sparingly during two years with the Buckeyes. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining next season as a redshirt sophomore.

Miller joins a Florida roster with three scholarship quarterbacks, including redshirt freshman Anthony Richardson — expected to be the front-runner for the starting job. First-year freshmen Carlos Del Rio-Wilson and Jalen Kitna did not play in 2021.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Miller was a four-star prospect at Chaparral High in Scottsdale, Ariz., and the nation’s 13th-ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2020 class.

Miller appeared during five games last season at Ohio State as the backup to Heisman finalist C.J. Stroud. Miller he completed 7 of 14 passes for 101 yards and rushed seven times for 22 yards and a touchdown.

The Gators seek experience at quarterback following Emory Jones’ decision to transfer after he plays in Thursday night’s Gasparilla Bowl against UCF in Tampa. Jones will make his 12th start for Florida (6-6).

Richardson started during an Oct. 30 loss against Georgia. He was sidelined by a second-half concussion and did not record a statistic again until he came off the bench to help the Gators to a 24-21 win Nov. 27 against Florida State.

Richardson underwent minor surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee dating his career Gainesville’s Eastside High School
