Women’s Soccer Adds Kent State Transfer Csernyik

The Youngstown State women’s soccer program has signed Julia Csernyik to a grant-in-aid to join the Penguins for the 2021 season, Head Coach Brian Shrum announced on Tuesday.

Csernyik is a transfer from Kent State and will have four years of eligibility with the Penguins.

“Julia is a gifted athlete that has tremendous speed and aerial presence,” Shrum said. “She will give us more attacking options as a wide forward or as a central midfielder.

“Julia likes to get others involved in the attack through her distribution abilities or take players on to get endline and serve balls into the goal mouth. I look for Julia to make an immediate impact and help raise the bar on the training grounds during each session.”

Csernyik played in two games for the Golden Flashes appearing against Bowling Green and Ohio.

Csernyik, from Stow, Ohio, was a two-year letterwinner in soccer at Stow-Monroe Falls and earned All-Suburban League and Defensive MVP honors in 2017. She also played club soccer for Internationals ECNL.

Csernyik joins Madison Angelo (Perkasie, Pa), Rachel Austin (Lewis Center, Ohio), Maddie Bellaver (Fishers, Ind.), Chloe Casello (Puyallup, Wash.), Maddie Elbert (Medina, Ohio), Erika Maliska (Leesburg, Va.), Delaney Millis (Livonia, Mich.), Madison Root (Ephrata, Pa.), Ella Seuberling (Lebanon, Ohio), and Gianna Weigel (Chambersburg, Pa.) in the 2021 recruiting class.
