Cases rising in Ohio, but still below 2K | News, Sports, Jobs

While the number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio has increased daily since Sunday, for 12 consecutive days the state has reported fewer than 2,000 new cases.

Also during the last 11 days, the number of cases has stayed below the daily average. That 21-day daily average went from 1,965 April 14 to 1,815 Wednesday.

Wednesday, 1,723 new cases were reported, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The number of cases has increased steadily since 873 were reported Sunday. On Monday, it was 1,396 and 1,560 Tuesday.

The state had a total of 1,068,985 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 1,014,536 presumed recovered.

The ODH provides death information only on Tuesdays and Fridays. There were 19,188 deaths as of Tuesday.

Mahoning County had 21,208 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 19,952 presumed recovered and 585 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 15,852 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 14,819 presumed recovered and 462 deaths.

Columbiana County had 8,660 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 8,224 presumed recovered and 229 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 4,622,202 people, 39.54 percent of the state’s population, who at least had started the vaccination process as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 20,827 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

The Mahoning Valley, particularly Columbiana County, lags behind the state.

In Mahoning County, 39.23percent of the population (89,840 people) had received at least one dose with 37.41 percent of the population in Trumbull County (74,059 people) and 31.93 percent in Columbiana County (32,531 people) as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the ODH.

There were 3,639,446 people, 31.14 percent of the state’s population,who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 49,842 in the previous 24 hours.

Mahoning County is above the state percentage while Trumbull and Columbiana counties are below it.

In Mahoning County, 31.67 percent of the population (72,432 people) had completed the process while 28.95 percent of the population in Trumbull (57,323 people) and 26.43 percent of the population in Columbiana (26,931 people) had as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
