Ohio State announces return of summer football camps

In a recent edition of “Kurelic Corner” Bucknuts had an item regarding the expected return of summer football camps on the Ohio State campus. In the item it was mentioned that while the NCAA had not made an official announcement, college football staffs around the country were moving forward with the expectation that camps would be allowed on campuses again this summer across the country.

It was also mentioned that a few Big Ten schools such as Penn State and Michigan State had posted on their football web sites that camps were returning to their campuses this summer. At that time Ohio State had not made the announcement though Bucknuts had said to expect that to happen in the near future.

That has now happened. The following message has been posted on the official Ohio State athletic site:

Buckeye Sports Camps & Clinics

Summer 2021

After receiving State and University guidelines for hosting summer camps we will be able to host in person camps this summer. Based on the information provided, we will only be able to host day camps (no overnights). Each camp or clinic will have limited capacity and be required to follow our health and safety protocols. Despite our new health and safety protocols we are confident you will have an enjoyable Buckeye Sports Camp experience!

Stay tuned as we update our webpage for upcoming camps and clinics.

Typically the Ohio State football program hosts three 1-day camps during the month of June.

The Ohio State staff welcomes in hundreds of high school football players from all over the country to their three 1-day camps

These camps are a big part of the Ohio State recruiting process as teaching and evaluation happen and new scholarship offers are made. These camps also give campers a chance to meet the Ohio State coaches in person and see the Ohio State facilities.

While attendance will be kept lower than in the past before the pandemic hit, these camps will be very important this summer and as always Bucknuts will provide plenty of coverage of these camps.

Camps were not held on college campuses across the country during the summer of 2020 because of the global pandemic.

Earlier this month the NCAA announced that the recruiting dead period, which had been in effect for over a year because of Covid 19, would end as of June 1, 2021.  With that announcement high school players across the country from the class of 2022 have been scheduling official visits to schools during the month of June.
