Ohio funding allocations will result in $336 million in school construction

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas will name its medical school in memory of Las Vegas businessman KIrk Kerkorian.

The medical school, which was founded in 2014, will now be called the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, The Las Vegas Sun reports.

“Mr. Kerkorian wanted to uplift medicine in Southern Nevada, and the medical school is a big step in fulfilling that wish,” says Anthony Mandekic, executor of Kerkorian’s estate.

A 135,000-square-foot medical education building under construction in Las Vegas also will bear the name of Kerkorian, a billionaire investor who owned, among other things, Las Vegas hotels and casinos and Hollywood movie studios. He died in 2015.

Upon completion of the building , the medical school will accommodate a class size of up to 120, double the school’s capacity. The majority of the
construction project has been funded by more than $150 million in private donations, including contributions from Kerkorian’s estate.

Construction of the building began last year and is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

The architects are TSK Architects and CO Architects.
