McInturf earns top transactions award from Ohio Realtors
Jan McInturf, Broker for McInturf Realty in New Philadelphia, has been recognized by the Ohio Realtors as the 2020 President’s Sales Club No. 1 Realtor in the “Top 5” for Individual Transaction Credits.
McInturf is a member of the East Central Association of REALTORS. He serves the community on the boards for the Quaker Foundation, Tuscora Park and the Tuscora Park Foundation. He is a member of the Lions Club and Faith Christian Church. He helps sponsor the Rainbow Connection, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and hosts the annual Christmas in the Park.
The Ohio REALTORS® awarded 3,861 of its members “President’s Sales Club” designations in four recognition levels for outstanding sales performance in the real estate industry.
Honorees were recognized at the Awards Night Extravaganza during the Ohio REALTORS Virtual Convention.
All members in good standing were eligible for the award. The Ohio REALTORS, with more than 34,000 members, is the largest professional trade association in Ohio.
When it comes to selling real estate, Jan McInturf knows how to close a sale. Now, the New Philadelphia Realtor’s reputation is becoming known throughout Ohio.
In a first for any Tuscarawas County Realtor, McInturf, who is the Broker for McInturf Realty in New Philadelphia, has been recognized by the Ohio Realtors trade association as the 2020 President’s Sales Club No. 1 Realtor in the “Top 5” for Individual Transaction Credits.
The “Top 5 Award,” recognizes the top five individuals in transactions in a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30 of the following year. The fiscal year for the 2020 President’s Sales Club ended June 30, 2020.
Last fiscal year, McInturf was second in the “Top 5” category.
“Honestly, I never thought I would get the award because we’re in kind of a rural market, and we’re going up against highly populated areas,” he said. “That’s what I’m so thrilled about.”
He credited cracking the “Top 5” in sales transactions, with over 250, and the separate “Top 5” in sales volume category to “working a lot harder” than his urban counterparts.
“I was fifth in Ohio in volume — which is the total sales value, with the volume of all of the prices added up from every home that you sell. If you live in some place where there are a lot of million dollar homes, you could make the list by selling quite a few less.”
The average sale price in Tuscarawas County varies throughout the year, but in 2018 it was $143,500, and rose to $152,300 for 2019.
Based on what he’s seen so far in 2020, McInturf expects the average price to rise to at least $160,000 by year’s end.
“I think that the strong market is because of low interest rates — people can pay more because their mortgage payments are lower,” he said. “You can’t rent a decent home in Tuscarawas County for less than $750 a month. If you borrow $100,000, the principle and interest is $408 per month for a fixed rate, 30-year loan. You’ve still got insurance and other costs to consider, but you can pursue getting the most house for your dollar because of the low interest rates.”
He said he had “no idea” that he would win the top award, but thought he again would be in the top two or three. There are over 34,000 Realtors in Ohio.
The Ohio Realtor Board President Chris Reese was in his agency’s conference room with a digital camera running when McInturf opened the door recently. The video of McInturf receiving the award was later shown during the state awards ceremony Sept. 22.
“It really surprised me to get the award, and in my offices,” said the veteran of 36 years in real estate.
“This is definitely one of the highlights of my career — definitely a defining moment for me,” McInturf said. “I’m very proud of it.”
