Iowa surpasses 2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses administered

KCCI’S KAYLA JAMES TAKES A LOOK AT WHERE IOWA STANDS TODAY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE PANDEMIC >> LAURA, VACCINE CLINICS ACROSS IOWA WERE IN FULL SWING TODAY, ADDING ON TO IOWA’S CONTINUOUSLY GROWING LIST OF PEOPLE LOOKING TO BE BETTER PROTECTED AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS. MORE THAN 2 MILLION DOSES HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED ACROSS IOWA. OTHER STATE NUMBERS SHOW OVER 870,000 IOWANS ARE NOW FULLY VACCINATED. AND MORE THAN 383,000 ARE HALFWAY TO BEING COMPLETELY VACCINATED, WAITING TO RECEIVE THE SECOND DOSE. MANY IOWANS TOOK TIME OUT OF THEIR DAY TO ADD ON TO THOSE NUMBERS, THERE WERE MULTIPLE CLINICS ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA, LIKE IN CARROLL AND HERE AT THE CORINTHIAN BAPTIST CHURCH IN DES MOINES. DRAKE UNIVERSITY ALSO HELD ONE TODAY. THEY HAD TO CHANGE FROM USING THE JOHNSON AND JOHNSON VACCINE TO PFIZER DUE TO THE FEDERAL PAUSE ON J&J’S VACCINE. I ACTUALLY SPOKE WITH A PHARMACIST THIS WEEK ABOUT THE PAUSE. SHE AND OTHERS WORRY THAT IT’S CAUSED VACCINE HESITATION. SHE SAYS PEOPLE SHOULDN’T COMPLETELY TURN AWAY FROM GETTING THE VACCINE JUST BECAUSE OF THIS PAUSE. >> PUT INTO PERSPECTIVE THAT IS EXTREMELY RARE. The Iowa Department of Public health on Saturday reported seven new COVID-19 positive tests and eight additional deaths.Since the start of the pandemic, as of 10 a.m., the health department reported 388,331 total positive tests, 399,990 total recoveries and 5,878 total deaths. Twenty-four hours earlier, the health department reported 388,324 total positive tests and 5,870 total deaths.Iowa reports 2,005,757 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered and 851,762 individuals have completed the vaccine series.Iowa’s 14-day positivity rate is at 4.6% and the seven-day average is now 4.3%. Health department data shows 4,647,153 tests have been administered in Iowa.There are now 233 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 226 the previous day. Iowa reports 50 patients in ICU and 19 patients on ventilators.Three of Iowa’s long-term care facilities report COVID-19 outbreaks. The health department reports 30 positive cases and six recoveries among residents and staff within those facilities. The Iowa Department of Public health on Saturday reported seven new COVID-19 positive tests and eight additional deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, as of 10 a.m., the health department reported 388,331 total positive tests, 399,990 total recoveries and 5,878 total deaths. Twenty-four hours earlier, the health department reported 388,324 total positive tests and 5,870 total deaths.

Iowa reports 2,005,757 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered and 851,762 individuals have completed the vaccine series.

Iowa’s 14-day positivity rate is at 4.6% and the seven-day average is now 4.3%. Health department data shows 4,647,153 tests have been administered in Iowa.
