The West Liberty Village Council met in person on Monday afternoon and welcomed many individuals during the meeting to talk with council. Police Chief Shane Oelker, residents, ball association, and Community Health and Wellness all had a chance to speak with council.

In news from the ball association, the association has merged with Kingscreek ball association. There are currently 323 registered kids, which make up 27 teams in the division. By summer they hope that it will be safe enough to play against other teams in the surrounding area.

A mobile unit will be given to Community Health and Wellness and council was asked if the unit may be set up in West Liberty, and what location would work best. Currently, Lions Park seems to be the best location for the set-up, but final decisions will be made later. The unit is expected to arrive in May and be fully in use by June of this year.

Under recommendations from Chief Oelker, curfew will once again be set to how it was before the pandemic. To reduce the spread of the virus, a curfew of 8:00 p.m. was set for the village, but now curfew is once again set to 11:00 p.m. for week days and 12:00 a.m. for weekends.

An ordinance that would enforce a two hour parking limit is being changed so that it now reads that down town will have no overnight parking. There will still be the two hour parking limit on the North side of town hall. A third and final vote on the ordinance will happen at the next regular meeting.

Council entered executive session to discuss real-estate, no action was taken.

April 30th is designated as Arbor Day for the village. A proclamation was written and will be read to commemorate the day and celebrate the first year of the village being a part of Tree City USA.

Peak fiber may soon be a part of the village. The new internet lines will be able to deliver faster speeds advertised to 1 gigabyte to households.

Garage sales will be taking place in the village on May 22nd and you are asked to socially distance and make this a safe and fun event.

Village clerk and treasurer Cindee Boyd discusses the meeting.

There will be a splash pad opening as well as a Put A Lid on It event on May 29th from 10:00 a.m. until noon. There will be fun activities, as well stations for kids to work on coloring pages, enjoy snacks, and talk with the police, K-9 unit, and fire fighters. The officers and fire fighters will talk with children about the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bike. The village received a Put A Lid on It grant and will be giving away 76 bike helmets for children during the event for free. It is first come first serve so come to have fun, learn about safety, and gear up for a safe summer ahead.

A meeting will be held on May 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter house at Lions Park for an open forum to discuss the upcoming Legends of Rock and Roll event. The purpose of this meeting is to clear up misinformation and for residents to ask the sponsors of the event questions they may have. This is intended as a civil information session and if it begins to devolve or becomes a hostile event the meeting will be stopped. Because of the potential large turn out of attendees, residents are asked to bring their own chair if the seating at the shelter reached capacity.

The West Liberty Village Council will meet again April 26th at 7:00 p.m. The location for the meeting will be finalized as the meeting approaches.
