Police Identify Victim in Fatal Ohio 7 Wreck in Shadyside | News, Sports, Jobs


Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a crash that killed one person on Ohio 7 near milepost 13 in Mead Township.

At about 10:25 p.m. Wednesday a 2003 Ford Ranger driven by Danny Dayton, 34, of Powhatan Point was traveling south on Ohio 7. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a guardrail. The Ranger then traveled back onto the roadway, striking the median wall and overturning on the highway.

A passenger, Kyle Brown, 36, of Clarington, was ejected from the Ranger and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Darren Michael, 37, of Bellaire also was traveling south and struck the Ranger as it was disabled in the roadway. Dayton was transported by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, with serious injuries.

Michael was transported to Wheeling Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday, closing both north and southbound lanes of the highway. The road reopened at 2:28 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
