Ohio OL Stephen Gales commits to highly-ranked Boston College class

Alliance (Ohio) High offensive tackle Stephen Gales committed to Boston College on Thursday.

The 6-foot-8, 290-pound Gales adds to a Eagles class now ranked No. 11 nationally by the 247Sports Composite.

“I love how diverse it is, how much culture they have,” Gales said of Boston College. “I feel like if there was a place to go that would be the place and only place I want to go.

“I love the schooling there, they told me about the school and it’s very impressive.”

Gales was a top target for head coach Jeff Hafley and his staff. He also had an offer from Ball State.

“They took a gamble on me,” Gales said of Hafley and company. “I only played seven football games last year. I got hurt my freshman year and eighth grade year too and I didn’t get to play my sophomore year. I just wanted to take a break from football so I could actually have a season and only played basketball and did shot put. So I took a break and waited till junior season to play and I had a pretty solid year.”

The Eagles staff certainly thought so. Gales built a rapport with Boston College assistants Matt Thurin and Matt Applebaum.

“They’re not the sweet talkers, they’re going to tell me what’s true and everything and what’s going to be real when I get there,” Gales said. “They kept it 100 percent honest with me and what I’m going to get into and they’re going to help me get somewhere one day.”
