Rouse Named G-MAC Pitcher of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – After tossing the second complete game of his young collegiate career, freshman Scott Rouse (Hinckley, Ohio) of the Ohio Dominican baseball team has been selected as the Great Midwest Pitcher of the Week.

Rouse is receiving his first G-MAC weekly award and is the third Panther to gain honors this spring. Since joining the conference in 2018, ODU has now won a combined 19 G-MAC player and pitcher of the week awards.

The freshman opened the Panthers’ home series with Cedarville on Friday, April 2, with a gem on the mound. Rouse threw all nine innings, only allowing two base runners throughout. Cedarville’s base runners came on single in the top of the third and a walked in the ninth inning.

In his first nine-inning complete game of the season, Rouse threw 105 pitches, including 73 for strikes (70%). He struck out eight batters in the game, including three in the ninth to secure the shutout win.

Rouse’s day was highlighted by a stretch of 18 consecutive batters retired, spanning the third through ninth frames.

On the season, Rouse has thrown a team-high 33.1 innings with a 2.70 ERA. The freshman has 32 strikeouts and is 3-1 over five starts this spring.

The shutout win was ODU’s first since a 1-0 victory against Hillsdale on May 4, 2019. The Panthers went on to win three of four games against Cedarville, including another shutout win, 1-0, on Saturday, April 3.

After the 3-1 weekend, ODU improved to 13-5 overall and 5-5 in G-MAC play.

The Panthers will return to action on Friday, April 9, with a doubleheader at Malone.
