Men’s Gymnastics Qualifies for National Championships


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State was announced Tuesday as one of 12 teams to qualify for the 2021 National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics Championships. The championships will begin with two pre-qualifying sessions conducted April 16 at Maturi Sports Pavilion on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

The Nittany Lions enter the event with the sixth-best qualifying score (401.213) in the nation, coming in right behind Ohio State and one spot ahead of Iowa. All seven Big Ten teams qualified for the championship meet.

Penn State will compete in the second qualifying session on Friday, April 16, at 8 p.m. (ET). The sixth-ranked Lions will be joined by No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Stanford, No. 7 Iowa and No. 10 Minnesota.

The first qualifying session of the day will start at 2 p.m. (ET) and includes No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 4 Nebraska, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 8 Illinois, No. 9 Navy and No. 12 William & Mary.

The top three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each qualifying session to the finals, scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, April 17.

The top eight finishers all-around and in each event will earn All-America honors.

With 12 national titles, Penn State is tied with Oklahoma for the most of any program in NCAA Men’s Gymnastics history. The Lions have crowned 15 all-around national champions.
