Fight between two Dayton men ends in fatal shooting in Columbus
A fight between two Dayton men at a motel on Columbus’ Northeast Side turned deadly Sunday night when one of them produced a gun, police reported.
Columbus Division of Fire medics pronounced Dion Skipper, 42, dead at 10:02 p.m. at the scene of a shooting at the Norwood Inn & Suite, located in the 1200 block of East Dublin Granville Road, just east of I-71.
Columbus police homicide detectives said an investigation determined that 49-year-old Bruce Cameron shot Skipper after an argument between the men escalated into a fight. Officers were called to the scene at 9:53 p.m., and found Skipper’s body outside the motel.
Cameron fled the scene after the incident, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Skipper’s death is the 51st homicide committed this year in Columbus and one of four that occurred in the city since Saturday afternoon.
Police on Monday identified Khemphone K. Soulivong, 49, as the victim of a shooting in the 1300 block of Republic Avenue in North Linden early Sunday morning. A resident suspicious of a car parked in an alley behind his home called police shortly after 3 a.m. Responding officers found Soulivong’s body in the driver’s seat.
No arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspects.
The other deaths occurred in a double homicide Saturday afternoon in the 900 block of Eaton Avenue in Franklinton. Police identified one of the victims as Kevin Williams, 24, but were withholding the name of the other victim, a 19-year-old male, while seeking to notify the family.
A third person, 30-year-old Anthony Williams, was listed in critical condition after the shooting, police reported. No further information was immediately available.
Anyone with information about Cameron’s whereabouts or with information on any of the fatal shootings is asked to contact homicide detectives at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
