Hudson’s historic Jeremiah Brown house on market for $1.5: House of the Week

HUDSON, Ohio — Hudson is full of historic homes, including many that were stops on the famous Underground Railroad.

Built in 1853, the Jeremiah Brown house at 204 E. Streetsboro St. is one of those homes with ties to the anti-slavery movement. Jeremiah was the brother of the famous abolitionist John Brown. According to the Hudson Heritage Association, Jeremiah stored munitions for the cause in the original barn on the property. It’s believed a dry cistern under what is now the family room was used to hide fugitive slaves, who were sneaked in and out through steps under the front porch.

Nearly 170 years later, the home is “one of the most beautiful, meticulously kept historic homes in Hudson,” listing agent Will Penney says, “showcasing the very best architectural blend of old and new.”

Indeed, many of the home’s period details have been restored and the property’s original charm remains intact.
