Track and Field Heads to Northeast Ohio Quad

The Kent State track and field program travels to Youngstown, Ohio to compete in the Northeast Ohio Quad on Friday, Apr. 2 from Farmer’s National Bank Field and the Sleepy Hollow Throwing Area.

Competition begins on Friday with the men’s javelin throw at 10 a.m. Field events are scheduled to conclude with the men’s triple jump at 3 p.m. The men’s 3000-meter steeplechase kicks off the running events starting at 1:30 p.m. Competition will come to a close with the men’s 1600-meter relay at 4:45 p.m.

Kent State will be competing against host Youngstown, Akron, and Ashland.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES

The Golden Flashes are sending a full squad to compete in the Northeast Ohio Quad.

Highlighting the Flashes are Lukas Van Der Watt, Kristian Kneffler, and Brad Jones who all rank top-3 in the MAC this season in their respective events. Van Der Watt and Kneffler hold the top two spots in the pole vault clearing heights of 16′-4.75″and 15′-5″, respectively, and Jones ranks second in the high jump (6′-7″).

Jake Wickey, Gabby Bailey, and Grace Tennant, who all qualified for the 2019 East Preliminary Round, are making their season debuts. Wickey will be competing in the men’s hammer throw while Bailey and Tennant will both be competing in the women’s shot put and discus throw.

Additional athletes making their season debuts include TJ Lawson, Zavien Parker, Jacob Mally, and Sarena Choi who all scored at the 2019 MAC Outdoor Championships. Lawson, Parker, and Wickey led the way with sixth place finishes in the men’s long jump, 400-meter dash, and discus throw, respectively. Mally and Choi placed seventh in the men’s 110-meter hurdles and women’s long jump, while Choi also took eighth place in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.  

NEXT UP FOR KENT STATE

Kent State will be back in action next weekend for a three-day meet when they travel to Knoxville for the Tennessee Relays on Thursday, Apr. 8 – Saturday, Apr. 10.
