Tornado watch, severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of North Texas

A tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning have been issued for parts of Dallas-Fort Worth as two rounds of showers and storms roll through North Texas Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The first round will move through in the late afternoon and through the evening, and additional storms will come through early Thursday, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).

Denton County was under a tornado warning until shortly after 10:10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Parker, Tarrant and Wise counties were under a severe thunderstorm warning through 9:45 p.m.

Winds are moving northeast at 30 mph and golfball-sized hail was reported, the National Weather Service said.

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of North Texas until 4 a.m. Thursday.

An additional severe thunderstorm watch issued to Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Fannin, Grayson and Lamar counties expired at 10 p.m.

A tornado warning expired at 7 p.m. for Van Zandt County, and a severe thunderstorm warning expired for Kaufman County at 6:30 p.m.

Storms will be capable of producing hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch will be possible.

Thunderstorms are expected to end Thursday morning with a few lingering showers in the late morning to early afternoon, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).
