Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Dallas-Fort Worth

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for North Texas that will remain in effect through 6 p.m. Sunday.

A cold front was set to move through the area , and the Weather Service cautioned that some storms could produce large hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph.

The possibility for tornadoes could not be ruled out, according to the Weather Service.

In an update on Twitter about 11 a.m., the Weather Service said a storm moving northeast through Denton County was capable of producing nickel-size hail.

“If it continues to strengthen, hail size is expected to increase,” the Weather Service said.

After the cold front moves through, the threat for severe weather is expected to decrease, said Jason Dunn, a Weather Service meteorologist.
