Entertainment News : Marvel’s Black Panther and Captain America game drops

We’ve got a new look at Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a visually gorgeous Captain America and Black Panther game set in World War 2. 

Today’s State of Unreal livestream gave us a first look at Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the previously-announced Captain America and Black Panther game from Skydance New Media. The World War 2-set game is being helmed by Amy Hennig, the writer behind the first three Uncharted games. 

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra’s first trailer also shows off Unreal Engine 5 tech like the MetaHuman Creator, allowing nigh-photorealistic cutscenes to be rendered in real time. Watch it below:

First trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra teases a Captain America-Black Panther showdown

Today’s State of Unreal livestream showed off several Epic Games-led projects in development, the major exception being Skydance’s new World War 2 game Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. The game is being made using Unreal Engine 5, and was presented during the livestream as a tech showcase for Epic’s MetaHuman Creator. Hennig said during the showcase, “Working with the MetaHuman process, we have been able to honour our amazing actors’ performances and faithfully transform them into equally powerful digital performances.”

The game is described as follows:

As the game’s narrative unfolds, players will assume the role of four central characters: a young Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris.

That gives Marvel 1943 four playable characters in total. In the trailer, we see Captain America in his own time – as opposed to the usual modern-day setting we see him in – fighting against Nazis in World War 2. While on a mission in Nazi-occupied Paris, he bumps into this era’s version of the Black Panther: Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather. The two heroes are both trying to stop Hydra from finding an artifact called the Eye of Force, but don’t seem to get along very well. The trailer ends with them trying to take each other down, but it’s a safe bet that the heroes will end up joining forces later on. 

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra launches in 2025.
