“We talked about the tragedy at our border and the horrific child trafficking that’s happening the day this photo was taken,” Lake tweeted. “Mel Gibson’s heart and soul are in the right place. We are praying for you and rooting for you. God bless you Mel!”

According to Newsweek, some are questioning whether the news is actually “breaking.”

“While Leading Report claimed to have a ‘breaking’ news story that Gibson is behind an alleged four-part docuseries, this information has actually been online since January 2023,” Newsweek reporter Jamie Burton writes.

Tim Ballard — the founder of Operation Underground Railroad — asserts that Gibson helped edit the movie Sound of Freedom. The movie features Ballard’s organization.

“Through this relationship, Ballard claims Gibson rang him at the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, and asked him to help rescue children from the country,” Burton notes.

In a video posted on YouTube, Ballard describes the docuseries.

“Four months later, what I thought was going to be maybe a documentary about Ukraine, ends up being a four-part docuseries — it’s almost done [and] it’s being produced by DNA Films and executive produced by Tony Robbins,” Ballard said.

On its website, OUR states that its purpose is to “shine a light worldwide on the global epidemic of child-sex trafficking, and in so doing rescue more children from slavery and assist law enforcement to seek justice for those who violate children.”

According to Newsweek, Gibson has not provided a comment on the report.
