Newark Catholic Green Wave baseball slips past Lakewood
Back-to-back RBI hits for Bryan McAnally and Eli Morris in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday lifted the Newark Catholic baseball team to a 2-1 victory against visiting Lakewood in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.
Troy Johnston’s hit started the rally. Braylon Bates and Morris struck out five apiece, combining to allow just an unearned run in a three-hitter for the Green Wave.
William Marrero had a hit and a run scored and Peyton Tichenor a hit and an RBI for the Lancers (4-5, 3-1). Tyler Bebout struck out three in three one-hit innings before last Wednesday’s postponement.
Heath wins at home
Cooper Bradley recorded two hits, including a double, a run scored and three RBIs for Heath in a 12-1 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.
Connor Corbett added a hit, a run scored and an RBI, Hayden Woodward a hit and three runs scored and Tannar Patterson a hit and two runs scored for the Bulldogs (4-3, 3-0). Carter Mason struck out five in five innings.
Jamie Odrumsky had two hits and an RBI and James Kalas a run scored for the Vikings (0-7, 0-4). Quentin Felhofer allowed one earned run and struck out two before last Wednesday’s postponement.
Watkins blanks Valley
Trace Hartman homered and struck out nine in five one-hit innings for Watkins Memorial in a 10-0 victory against visiting Licking Valley in LCL-Buckeye play.
Logan Fitch and Aydan Guthrie scored three runs apiece with Guthrie also recording a hit and an RBI for the Warriors (4-4, 2-0). Sam Johnson added two hits and two RBIs and Chase Massie a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
Theo Walsh had the lone hit for the Panthers (3-1, 2-1). Evan Roberts struck out four in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Johnstown wins at Utica
Garrett Grinstead homered and tripled, totaling three hits, two runs scored and five RBIs in Johnstown’s 16-10 victory at Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.
Caiden Scholl added three hits, two runs scored and four RBIs, Benji Perez a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Cole Boroff two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Johnnies (4-2, 2-1). Clay Bruning struck out six and allowed two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Tyler Collura and Gavin Chinn each homered for Utica (3-6, 0-4) with Chinn driving in three runs. Aidyn Burgess added two hits, three runs scored and an RBI and Roman Gamble and Jordan Hartman two hits, a run scored and an RBI apiece.
SOFTBALL
Watkins edges Newark
Taylor Gerhardt’s two-run home run in the fourth inning gave Watkins Memorial some breathing room in a 4-1 victory against visiting Newark.
Cortney Dobbs added a hit and an RBI and Ava McKee and Maleya Thompson a double apiece for the Warriors (10-0). Carsyn Cassady struck out nine in a four-hitter.
Syncere Royster homered for the Wildcats (7-5), and Mallory Back doubled. Jaylen Jackson struck out three and allowed two earned runs in five innings.
Lakewood wins at NC
Abby Colley had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for Lakewood in an 8-3 victory at Newark Catholic.
Dani Stewart added three hits and a run scored, Audrey Thomas two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Lauren Griffith two hits and an RBI for the Lancers (6-3-1, 2-2). Stewart struck out two and allowed no hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Addi Gerber had a hit and two RBIs, Joanna Bailey a hit and an RBI and Maris Knowlton two runs scored for the Green Wave (4-3, 2-2).
Johnstown beats Utica
Macy Walters and Katie Blackburn each doubled and drove in three runs, combining for five hits and three runs scored in Johnstown’s 13-2 victory at Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.
Addie Triplett added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, Laney Zak two hits and two runs socred and Peyton Mischel a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Johnnies (6-1, 4-1). Dakota Staffan struck out eight in four innings.
Karleigh Lees had two hits and two RBIs for Utica (1-6, 0-4). Lexi Wiegand added a hit and a run scored and Carlie Hill a run scored.
Heights wins at Granville
Lily Meidl piled up four hits, including a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs, powering Licking Heights to a 10-5 victory at Granville in LCL-Buckeye play.
Savanna Christ added three hits, including a double, a run scored and two RBIs, Kaylyn Hopf two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Alissa West a hit, two runs scored and an RBI for the Hornets (6-2, 3-1). Lydia Rauch threw two scoreless innings of relief.
Megan Lodge and Taylor Warehime each homered for the Blue Aces (6-2, 2-2). Alyssa Guglielmi added two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Heath wins at home
Savannah Lawson hit one of four Heath home runs, totaled three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs in a 17-1 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.
Shelby Moore, Renae Cunningham and Sydney Cottrell also homered for the Bulldogs (7-2, 4-0) with Cunningham and Moore each driving in three runs, and Kristal Keeran added three hits and two RBIs. Sydney Chapman struck out seven in three innings, and Moore followed with a strikeout in two perfect innings.
