Wisconsin tops Ohio State in women’s hockey national championship
DULUTH, Minn. − Ohio State’s reign as women’s hockey national champion came to an end Sunday as the top-ranked Buckeyes were upset by No. 6 Wisconsin 1-0 in the title game.
One of the most prolific offenses in the country with 4.22 goals per game this season, the Buckeyes were shut out despite out-shooting the Badgers 31-22.
Wisconsin took the lead with six minutes remaining in the first period on a goal by Kirsten Simms and held onto it for the rest of the game.
Ohio State finished the season 33-6-2.
Ohio State had beaten Northeastern 3-0 in a semifinal on Friday while the Badgers topped Minnesota 3-2.
During the regular season, Ohio State was 3-1 against Wisconsin, winning by scores of 2-1, 5-0 and 3-1 and losing 6-5 in overtime.
