PARKERSBURG — The holiday parade season has arrived as Belpre and Marietta will have their Christmas parades at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Merry-Etta Lighted Christmas Parade, with a Whoville theme this year, will follow a route that takes it along Ohio Street to Second Street by the Levee House and left on Greene Street, then onto Front Street and right on Putnam Street, right on Second Street and ending in front of the Galley.
Jen Tinkler, of Marietta Main Street, said there are 85 different floats for this year’s parade.
“There will also be fire engines from local fire departments, and ODOT is going to send some of their ‘Paint the Plows’ to be in the parade as well,” Tinkler said.
Tinkler said it’s been a lot of fun getting this year’s parade together. She said the volunteers on the Hometown Holiday Committee have done an excellent job getting the word out about the parade and everyone is really excited about seeing this year’s floats.
Tinkler thanked Par Mar for sponsoring this year’s parade and it was fun partnering with them. She said she was personally excited about the event.
“I love watching kids at parades,” Tinkler said. “So I’m excited to see all the kids.”
Tinkler said Santa himself was going to make an appearance.
In Belpre, the Belpre Lions Club will present a Christmas Parade on Washington Boulevard between Stone Road and Howes Grove Park at 6 p.m. Saturday. Santa will be at the Civitan Park Gazebo afterwards to meet with the children. The Belpre Women’s Club will present a 35-foot Christmas Tree in Civitan Park.
The annual Beverly-Waterford Christmas parade will make its way from Waterford High School to Dodge Park in Beverly on Sunday evening, where the lights will officially be lit for the holiday season. The parade will start at 5:30 p.m.
The theme this year is “Home For the Holidays.” After the lighting, people are invited to stay and enjoy music from the Beverly United Methodist Church Hand Bell Choir, hot chocolate and cookies and do pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
In Williamstown, the annual Christmas Parade will be 6 p.m. Dec. 2. It will take the same route through town as other parades do, West Ninth Street, past the elementary school and the fire station, and will end at Tomlinson Park. The parade will be followed by the Christmas Tree lighting at the City Building.
This year’s lighted parade theme is “Christmas Traditions.”
In Vienna, the parade will be 11 a.m. Dec. 3 along Grand Central Avenue from around 46th Street to 23rd Street. It is part of the annual Holly Days celebrations in the city. The parade will feature floats and bands from all around the area, including from Ohio.
“The Holly Days events are a really big deal,” Linda Kern, Vienna Community Event Planner said. “The parade is enormous.”
“The parade is always a special time for so many people in the community,” she said. “It is a big deal for families and the community to come together to create memories.”
The Parkersburg parade will be 2 p.m. Dec. 3, with the theme of “A Fairy Tale Christmas” with the parade traditionally going down Market Street in downtown Parkersburg.
