Joe Jonas was almost ‘The Amazing Spider-man’

Joe Jonas was ecstatic to play Peter Parker in the 2012 film “The Amazing Spider-Man,” but Andrew Garfield ultimately won the part.

“I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man, and I was so, so excited, and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it,” Jonas revealed on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast.

“Obviously, he was the right one,” said the singer about the role being won by Spider-man super fan Andrew Garfield.

The fact that the movie’s director Marc Webb used to produce music videos, gave Jonas the impression that he had “an in.”

“But you know what? I love the process of auditioning and putting yourself out there and having to prove yourself,” confessed the singer.

In response to the question of whether it involved donning the Spider-Man suit, Jonas said, “No, but I’m sure I had one that I would try on occasionally back in the day.”

Andrew Garfield was the right choice

Garfield and Emma Stone then starred together in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” in 2014. The actor later returned to the character in Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” from the previous year.

Jonas focused his concentration on his music after missing out on the superhero success. The vocalist had “plenty of time” to devote to honing his acting abilities when the pandemic struck because “touring wasn’t really an option.”

He gave his “Game of Thrones” star wife, Sophie Turner, credit for guiding him through the process.

“When you have a wife like Sophie Turner, who is a phenomenal actress, [being] the one filming you and directing you through it, you got to bring your A-game,” he shared, calling the 26-year-old his “toughest critic.”
