Will you be able to vote on Saturday in the U.S. Senate runoff? Depends on what county

ATLANTA — Only a handful of counties so far have said they will offer Saturday voting in the Senate runoff election between Sen. Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker.

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office says most of those locations are in metro Atlanta.

Mike Hassinger with the Secretary of State’s Office told Channel 2′s Dave Huddleston that people will have to contact their local county elections office to see if they plan to have Saturday voting.

“They need to look at their local county elections officers and figure out if their county has declared that voting on Saturday the 26th will be possible in those counties,” Hassinger said.

Huddleston looked online Monday and found DeKalb County will offer early voting starting on Wednesday and then Saturday.

Fulton County is offering Saturday voting starting at 7 a.m. on Nov. 26. Huddleston also checked Forsyth County — they are not offering Saturday voting. That county plans to start on Monday, Nov. 28.

The state immediately appealed the Saturday voting decision saying state law prohibits Saturday voting if a holiday falls on the preceding Thursday, like Thanksgiving does this year.

“If the appeals court decides some other way, we will follow what the appeals court says,” Hassinger said.

If the appeals court agrees with the Secretary of State and says Saturday voting is against state law, then the counties will have to cancel early voting for that day.

Hassinger’s recommends you have a backup plan, if you decide to vote on Nov. 26.
