Ohio Volleyball Drops to Bowling Green in Four Sets


 

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Ohio volleyball team (8-7, 2-2 MAC) dropped a tough four sets, 3-1 (18-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-27) to Bowling Green (9-6, 4-0 MAC) on Saturday (Oct. 1) inside the Stroh Center.

Bowling Green barely outhit Ohio, registering a .189 hitting percentage to the Bobcats .153. Ohio recorded 58 kills, 53 assists, and 71 digs to the Falcons 44 kills, 39 assists, and 57 digs.

Bowling Green managed to get up early in the first and second set, making it difficult for the Bobcats to close the gap. While Ohio fell to the Falcon’s in sets one and two, the Bobcats dominated the third set. Impressive runs by Ohio allowed the Bobcats to force the largest deficit of the match and take set three 25-17. Both teams battled till the end in set four, with Ohio hoping to extend the match and Bowling Green looking to improve its record. After eight and six lead changes, the Bobcats fell to the Falcons 27-25.

Senior middle blocker Caitlin O’Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) led the match in kills with 17. Sophomore outside hitter Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) also reached double-digit kills with 15 of her own. Senior setter Parker Kwiatkowski (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was a match leader as well, tallying 30 assists. Adding to the Bobcats assist total was junior Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) with 15.

Defensively, Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) led the match in digs with 18, one kill shy of a double-double. Juniors Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb) and Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) followed with 15 and 12 digs. Kwiatkowski achieved her first double-double of the season, collecting 11 digs. Junior Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) continues to led the Bobcats in blocks, picking up five block assists on the match.

Up next, Ohio will travel to Mount Pleasant to take on Central Michigan on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. ET.
