? Council Approves $90M Development + Delayed Field Openings
Good morning, people of Lakewood! It’s me again, Carla Varner, your host of the Lakewood Daily.
First, today’s weather:
Sun mixing with clouds. High: 56 Low: 53.
Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- The Lakewood City Council unanimously approved the development of the former Lakewood Hospital site by national real estate developers CASTO Communities and North Pointe Realty on Monday. The 5.7 acres of property at Detroit and Belle Avenues will see the construction of a $90M mix-use project. The proposal includes a nearly 30,000-square-foot ground-floor commercial development, 20,000-square foot plaza and community space, and approximately 200 mixed-income for-sale and rental housing. - Spring weather is at fault for the two-week delay in the reopening of the Jimmy Foxx Field in Kaufman Park and the George J. Usher field at Madison Park. The city spent $200k to repair a dangerous transition between infield and outfield. Leslie Krogman, the coordinator of the Lakewood City Schools Department of Community Recreation and Education, said the dirt smells great but the grass needs more time to germinate. (cleveland.com)
- Pita Brooks of Lakewood was one of approximately one million women in the United States who left their jobs during the pandemic. The 43-year-old mom initially went out on maternity leave, but shortly thereafter, her newborn daughter was diagnosed with cancer. She quit after her maternity leave when her request to continue working remotely was denied. (Business Insider)
