Southwest Public Libraries resuming regular hours with earlier start
Southwest Public Libraries will resume regular hours beginning Sunday, with earlier opening and closing times in response to an analysis of community needs and usage.
Hours at the system’s two locations — Grove City Library at 3959 Broadway, and Westland Area Library at 4740 West Broad St. — were temporarily reduced on Jan. 10 and the library was closed on Sundays because of staffing issues related to the COVID-19 omicron variant surge.
Beginning Sunday, the new hours at both locations will be: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Library hours have been shifted to earlier in the day as a result of an analysis of usage, both currently and pre-pandemic, and in response to community request. The libraries would routinely have people waiting for the doors to open in the morning and almost no one in the last half-hour or hour in the evenings.
The library system’s board of trustees approved the forward move in hours at its meeting earlier this month.
“We want to serve the community how and when they need it most,” Meredith Wickham, library system director said in a release. “Our goal is to provide the community the most effective service possible, and after analysis, it was apparent shifting hours to open earlier in the day would better meet our patrons’ needs.”
