Development group in talks to convert former Central Ohio train depot into restaurant and

The local real estate investment company RiverWest Partners has big plans for Delaware’s historic train depot.

According to RiverWest Co-founder Tom Vetter, the group is currently in talks to bring a restaurant and brewery concept to the site. He noted the project would take up the entirety of the roughly 7,000 square foot building.

“We think it’s this great historic building that has a ton left in it,” Vetter. “We want to breathe some life back into it.”

The name of the eatery was not disclosed, as the deal has not been finalized.

The former train depot, which was built in 1855, is located at 60 Lake St. in Delaware. According to Vetter, whatever project does fill the space will work to preserve the building’s abundance of local history.

“Due to the fact that it’s 150 years old, there’s a ton of work going into the project like this. What we would be doing is keeping the historic integrity in place, but the actual nuts and bolts would all be completely replaced,” he said.

And while Vetter believes bringing a popular dining spot to Delaware’s East Side would be a boon for the area in its own right, RiverWest is also creating a multi-family, mixed use development in the same area, with hopes that both projects will be a catalyst in transforming the neighborhood.

“We’re making multiple investments on the East Side of Delaware,” Vetter said. “The city is also looking to make more investments there, to create a walkable neighborhood with living and entertainment options.”
