COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team hosts No. 3 Nebraska on Sunday for senior day. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on BTN (TV login required).

Senior day recognition will take place following the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the meet. Admission and parking are free.

  • OSU ranks in the top five in the nation as a team in four events (based on a four-score average) – fourth on floor (68.183), fourth on pommel horse (66.283), fourth on rings (66.750) and fifth on vault (71.317).
  • Ohio State fell short at No. 2 Oklahoma last weekend by a 408.400-399.050 margin. The Buckeyes posted their second-highest team scores of the season on floor and high bar, while Trevor Cummings and Donovan Hewitt earned event wins on the pommel horse and rings.
  • At Oklahoma, Cummings tied his career-best 14.600 on pommel horse in the event win and Domenic Sciulli took second in the parallel bar competition with a career-best 13.850.
  • This season, the Buckeyes are 5-2 outside of invitational competition where they finished second of seven teams to open the season at the Windy City Invite. Ohio State’s wins include No. 4 Michigan, No. 7 Penn State, No. 10 Army, No. 12 William & Mary and New York Alliance.
  • Nebraska enters the meet with a 9-4 record overall and is 2-1 against Big Ten opponents. The Huskers have only competed in three other dual meets this season, going 1-2 with a win over Penn State and losses to Michigan and Stanford.
  • Nebraska has surpassed the 400-point mark as a team in every meet this season.
  • Last Saturday, the Huskers beat both Army and Air Force in a tri-meet at Air Force by scoring a team-high 410.500.

Vault

  • 10th – Dexter Roettker (14.533)
  • Roettker and Hewitt are two of just eight gymnasts in the country to record at least a 14.800 this season.

High Bar

  • Fifth – Jesse Tyndall (13.783), has the highest score of the season (14.550) nationally.

 

2022 Senior Class

Curtis Chang

First up, Curtis Chang from Sugar Land, Texas. Curtis originally began as a walk-on and has developed into a consistent member of the pommel horse lineup. Curtis earned a career-best 13.650 on pommel horse in this season’s dual-meet win against Michigan and ranks in the top-20 in the country. He is a four-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete, two-time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree and two-time CGA Academic All-America Scholar Athlete. Curtis is working towards his degree in finance and hoping that his current internship at an HR hiring company in Dublin can turn into a full-time position after graduation.

Domenic Sciulli

Next we have Domenic Sciulli from Powell, Ohio. Domenic also joined the team as a walk-on and has since been an integral member of the Buckeyes’ parallel bars and high bar competition squad. Domenic set a new career-high on parallel bars last weekend with a 13.850 with his best high bar score coming last season against Michigan with a 13.550. He is working towards a degree in criminology and hopes to work for the Columbus Police Department after graduation.

Angel Leon

Now we have Angel Leon from Tuscan, Arizona. Angel is a steady force in the all-around competition for Ohio State and was a 2020 Regular season All-American on the High Bar. With 6 career titles, Angel boasts career-best scores of more than 14 on floor, rings, vault and high bar with his highest score on vault (14.500) coming against Minnesota last season. He is working towards his degree in human development and family science and plans to head back home to work at his club gym and get his real estate license after graduation.

Luke Smigliani

Next up is team captain Luke Smigliani from Hanover, Massachusetts. Luke has been a consistent part of the pommel horse and rings lineups over his career. With 2 career titles, Luke’s career-best 14.050 on pommel horse was earned at a quad meet his sophomore season and his 13.350 on rings last season against Iowa. Luke finished 10th last season on the Pommel Horse at the NCAA Finals and was a 2020 Regular season All-American on the Pommel Horse. He is a two-time CGA Academic All-American Scholar Athlete. Luke is working towards his degree in hospitality management and also has a minor in real estate. He plans on returning for a fifth season and then going home to be a part of the fire department along with being a real estate agent.

Dexter Roettker

Now we have team captain Dexter Roettker from Jackson, Ohio. Dexter gives the Buckeyes energy as a reliable member of the floor, vault and high bar lineups. With 4 career titles, Dexter set a new career-best twice this season on vault as he earned a 14.800 in the win at Penn State and currently ranks 10th in the country. He is a four-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete, two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and two-time CGA Academic All-American Scholar Athlete Honoree. He is working towards his degree in finance and has a job lined up as a financial advisor here in Columbus after graduation.

Jesse Tyndall

Lastly, we have team captain Jesse Tyndall from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Jesse has been strong in every event and the all-around for the Buckeyes with his 26 career titles. He is a finalist for the Nissen Emery Award, given to the most outstanding senior collegiate gymnast. Jesse earned a 15 on floor last season and has earned career-bests on pommel horse, rings and high bar this season. His career-best 14.550 on high bar is the highest score in the country this season as he ranks fifth on high bar, fifth on floor, eighth on rings and is in the top-20 on parallel bars. Jesse earned All-American honors last season in the all-around competition and was also named All-Big Ten First Team along with being a Regular season All-American on the Floor and High Bar in 2020. Academically, he was selected four times as an Ohio State Scholar Athlete, twice to the Academic All-Big Ten team and was a CGA Academic All-American Scholar Athlete last season. He is working towards a degree in criminology and plans to return home to attend fire college and pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter after graduation.
