Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education appoints Warrior alum Dorin Jackson to

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio — Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education last night (Jan. 18) appointed Dorin Jackson, a 2005 Fairview High School graduate, as a new board member.

The seat was vacant due to the fact nobody ran for the position last fall.

“We believe Dorin is the right pick because he has an understanding of public education and school finances,” Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education President Joslyn Dalton said.

“He’s eager to give his time and energy to the position and make a difference. Dorin will be a good addition to the team.”

He joins current board of education members Dalton, Donald Bittala, Erin Hinkel and Jennifer Bolander.

After 17 residents came forward with an interest in the open board seat, nine applicants were interviewed before Jackson was selected.

“This is about the opportunity to help and participate in serving Fairview Park,” said Jackson, 35, who returned to the city as a resident roughly two years ago with his wife, Adrienne. The couple’s first child is due in May.

Currently in his seventh year as a sixth-grade math teacher at Medina’s A.I. Root Middle School, Jackson’s education career began in Virginia. He also recently received his master’s degree with a focus on leadership.

“This was an opportunity to give back to the community that I feel has given a lot to me,” Jackson said. “As a math teacher, I feel pretty confident with numbers and all of that good stuff.

“Regarding finances, I can add to the board in terms of making sure that we’re making fiscally sound policies and supporting the positive things that I think Fairview is already doing.”

When asked if as a Fairview Park City Schools student he ever envisioned one day being on the board of education, Jackson said, “Honestly, no. I can’t believe it. It’s really quite an honor.”

Dalton said the Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education is excited to tackle numerous areas this year.

“Our goals will be focused on academics, fiscal responsibility and collaboration,” Dalton said.
