Channel 2’s Jovita Moore to undergo surgery for brain tumor – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — For two decades Atlanta families have leaned on Jovita Moore to deliver them news and information, and now the Channel 2 Action News family is asking for Atlanta to support Jovita.

Jovita will undergo surgery on Friday after doctors discovered two small masses on her brain.

Jovita underwent an MRI after noticing symptoms on Monday afternoon. Just before going on air Monday, Jovita told Channel 2′s Justin Farmer that she wasn’t feeling great.

“I was really concerned about why all of a sudden I was forgetful, disoriented and just not feeling myself. Feeling like I was in a fog and really wanting to get out of that fog,” Jovita said.

Later that evening as she walked through the grocery store parking lot, she realized it was more than just not feeling well.

“It was a blessing in disguise that I almost passed out walking into Publix,” Jovita said. “I was walking. I remember walking across the parking lot and feeling like I wasn’t going to make it to the door. I was almost like walking in quicksand.”

A scan of her brain revealed two small masses.

“It’s significant. It’s gonna be a lot. Two little tumors kind of near each other and they got to go,” Jovita said. “We had to start then having a conversation about what that was and what that meant.”

Her neurosurgeon Dr. Edjah Nduom said the prognosis is still unclear and he and his team are crafting a plan of action. They will know a lot more after Friday’s surgery.

“Quite honestly we still don’t know yet,” Nduom said. “I can tell you Jovita is upbeat, optimistic and feels surrounded by love. All of those things feed into someone being in a good place to recover. People who are functioning very well at a time they’re faced with this tend to do better.”

Jovita is currently surrounded by her family as she prepares to undergo surgery Friday morning. Recovery from the surgery will last 8-10 weeks and we will keep you updated on her progress on Channel 2 Action News at WSBTV.com

“I think it’s gonna be home for a few weeks at least after surgery. Not sure when I’ll be back on air but when I’m able, I will be,” she said.

Jovita asked the community for prayers as she begins this fight.

“I know we have great viewers. I know that the prayer warriors are gonna be at work,” Jovita said. “I just felt like it was something I needed to share. I didn’t want to just disappear from air for a couple of months and I wanted people to know what was going on. Also, I want to feel that energy, that outpouring and that support as well. I know they’re gonna bring it.”
