Boulder Shooting Leaves 10 Dead, Including Police Officer

A gunman killed 10 people, including a police officer, Monday afternoon at a supermarket in Boulder, Colo., authorities said.

The suspect is in custody, police said at a press briefing Monday evening. A live television feed earlier showed officers leading a man away from the scene, handcuffed, bloodied and shirtless, after the shooting in the King Soopers store.

“I promise the victims and the people of the state of Colorado we will secure justice,” said Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty.

The police officer killed was Eric Talley, 51, who has been with the Boulder department since 2010.

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold said Officer Talley was the first officer to respond to reports of shots fired at the supermarket around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The chief, fighting back tears, called his actions “heroic.”
